The Duke of Edinburgh Award
The International Award was first introduced
in the United Kingdom in 1956 as The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The aim of
the Award is to motivate young people to become involved in a balanced
program of voluntary self-development activities. The Award is now a major
international programme recognized and used by organizations working with
young people throughout the world. To-date, almost 5 million young people
from over 110 countries have been motivated to undertake a variety of
activities under The International
Award.
The Award is a flexible program
and is open to all young people aged between 14 to 25. The Award concept is
one of individual challenge. It presents to young people a balanced,
non-competitive programme of voluntary activities which encourages personal
discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility to
themselves and services to their community. It equips the participants with
life skills with which to make a difference to themselves, their communities
and the world.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award
Basically, the
Duke of Edinburg’s Award for Young People can be categorized into 4 sections
designed to provide a balanced programme of personal development for its
participants. These 4 sections are as follows:-
- Service – to learn how to give useful advice to others
- Skills – to encourage the development of personal interests, creativity or
practical skills
- Physical Recreation – to encourage participation in physical recreation
and improvement of performance
- Adventurous Journey – to encourage a spirit of adventure and discovery
whilst undertaking a journey in a group
GAC Adventure Consultant offers the expertise to conduct programmes and
activities to help you meet the requirements of all the above 4 sections. We
are the preferred consultant of Alice Smith School and have successfully run
the Programme for Alice Smith School since 2005. You may contact Mr Marc
